Six Star Luxury on the South China Sea

CapellaSIN.jpg

Come along as we explore the island of Singapore.  Singapore is known for its shopping! And Orchard Road is lined with mega shopping malls. After shopping we tried the local durian fruit--even when the locals cautioned us against it!  We sampled the local cuisine: chili crab, chicken & rice, nasi lemak (coconut rice), satay, ba kut teh (pork ribs), and fried hokkien mee (fried noodle with prawn). And my absolute favorite food--Kaya Toast.
Be sure to experience Singaporean culture first hand by visiting the villages: China Town, Malay Village, and India Town.
journeyPod even got a glimpse into Singaporean fashion. The latest craze...stylish, colorful footwear made by Braziliano Praia.  A shout out to Kelly Tan and Michelin Star Chef Marco Pedrelli at Mandarin Oriental Singapore. And a huge thank you to Capella Singapore for their kind hospitality! This amazing six-star property open this past Spring and is breathtaking. Let’s take a listen as Michael Luible, General Manager of Capella Singapore, talks to journeyPod.com.

The Local Side of Thai Life–with a Little Luxury Added

journeypod continues to jet-set all over Southern Thailanto explore the more laid-back area of Krabi.

A trip to the touristy town of Ao Nang brings back memories of Nha Trang, Vietnam. (Visit our archives from June 2008 to listen to our podcast shows from Vietnam)

This small beach-side town is loaded with shopping, restaurants, bars, and clubs.

The best “local” dessert is mango sticky rice, or kao neaw ma mung. It’s delicious and fattening! And try the Pad Thai at Ao Nang Cuisine.

For a more authentic and local feel, drive about 30 minutes outside of Ao Nang to Krabi Town. At the main intersection of town you will be greeted by a most unusual landmark--cavemen holding up the traffic signals. If you’re hungry, don’t fret...this is, after all, a small Thai town. Day markets, night markets, roadside stalls, noodle shops - it's all here. And it doesn't require much effort to find.

When you’re ready to check-in to sleep off the jet-lag or the one too many Singha beers, journeyPod recommends Rayavadee. Rayavadee, meaning “Island of the Princess” is fit for a princess! It is a luxurious resort at the tip of the Krabi peninsula.

Let’s take a listen as Brian Harries from Rayavadee talks to journeyPod.com and then we'll get pumped up with the upbeat sounds of AX and their song "Thai Massage."

Luxury and Wellness Combined in Thailand

journeyPod is your guide to luxury travel around the world.  Come along as we explore Thailand. Our first stop is Phuket, then we head over to Krabi for our next show. On today’s show, we hang on the private island of Naka and explore the rich man’s playground that is Phuket.

Phuket is indeed touristy.  But journeyPod was able to cut through the commercialism and head off the beaten path while still experiencing some of the local sights. We visited Chalong Temple, The Big Buddha, Phromthep Cape, Rawai Beach and the sea gypsies, and the Sino-Portuguese architecture on Thalang Street.

We stayed on Naka Island -- home to the new Six Senses Destination Spa. If you’re thinking super-spa, you couldn’t be more wrong!  Six Senses Destination Spa is the anti-super spa. This is the place to come if you really want to get away and experience an overall change in wellness. Oh, and your butler will take care of everything for you. It’s luxury and wellness combined! In fact, the Prince of Dubai recently stayed there!

Let’s take a listen as Bryan Hoare from Six Senses Destination Spa talks to journeyPod.com and then relax with the soothing sounds of Leerone and her song "All is Well".

Your Own Piece Of Paradise - Six Senses Hideaway Ninh Van Bay

journeyPod is your guide to luxury travel around the world. And around the world and a boat ride later is where we found a “hideaway”, an island tucked away off the coast of Nha Trang, Vietnam in the middle of the South China Sea.

Ever dream of your own private beach villa, complete with private pool, and private beach, and butler that answers to your every whim? Dream no further. journeyPod has found it for you!

Nha Trang, Vietnam, capital of Khánh Hòa province, is located about 280 miles north of Saigon. After you’ve trekked around Nha Trang and experienced the fascinating culture, the incredible food, and the most accommodating people, head to a place of total relaxation and privacy. A place so exclusive you need a private boat to travel there. And once you are there, you have nothing to do but relax. journeyPod recommends a Thai massage, performed by Tam, over a babbling brook.

journeyPod sat down with Six Senses Hideaway Ninh Van Bay’s GM, Godfrey Vas, for an inside look at this amazing island property. Although there are only 58 villas on theis island resort, they staff at Hideaway numbers over 470!  That’s more than 7 staff for each villa...talk about service!

Six Senses Hideaway Ninh Van Bay sister property is located about 30 minutes via boat across the bay on the mainland.  Ana Mandara is another journeyPod pick.  Be sure to check out the Ana Mandara podcast from a previous show.

For now, I’ll leave you with the tropical sounds of Sugar Fix and their song "Private Island".

journeyPod is your guide to luxury travel around the world. And around the world is where we traveled to find break-taking views of the South China Sea, incredible food, fascinating culture, and the most accommodating people.

Nha Trang, Vietnam, capital of Khanh Haa province, is located about 280 miles north of Saigon. Its pristine beaches are perfect for snorkeling and of course scuba diving.

The best food in Nha Trang is found on the streets and the smaller restaurants. journeyPod highly recommends Song Bien (Ocean Wave) for the best coconut chicken dish. And be sure to try the Vietnamese coffee (Phin Cafe).

Check out the 5 star elegance at the beachfront Ana Mandara.  Be sure to introduce yourself to Lucie at the front desk, and tell her Andrea from journeyPod sent you!

And donât forget to check out the spa for an unique Vietnamese cupping massage.

journeyPod sat down with Ana Mandara GM, Lionel Valla, for an inside look at this amazing property.

Ana Mandaraâs sister property is located about 30 minutes via boat across the bay.  Six Senses Hideaway Ninh Van Bay is another journeyPod pick so be sure to check out that podcast on an upcoming show.
